So, after reading that heartbreaking list of celebrities who think poor, misunderstood Roman Polanski shouldn't have to be punished for drugging and raping a 13-year-old girl, I was much more encouraged to see this list of celebrities who are speaking out against him.

Dear Hollywood:

JSYK, many of us are taking notes. For myself, I can tell you that the movies, television and other art forms that I will be watching and supporting in the future are being determined right now. If you think a man who raped a child should not have to pay for his crimes, I have no use for you or any entertainment of yours that may be offered from now on.

JSYK.

Watching what you are doing there,
Me.

I love how Woody Allen is one of the first names on the pro-Polanski list.

Awkwarrrrrrd!

Me, I'm with George Stefanopoulis, Bare Naked Lady Steven Page, Jewel, Kirstie Alley (hey, we all hafta have some awkward, huh), Kevin Smith, and thank the Lord Neil Gaiman!

I'm going to go be sick. There have been a few names I've been watching for, hoping against anything they would not turn up on that first list and they just have. My only hope is that, maybe, like far too many people, they are not fully aware of the events in question considering the way it has been portrayed, then and now, in the media. Please. Because I've just seen the two people whose work I've ever come close to idolizing publicly put down their names in support for a horrible man.

Thank you for sharing these links, specially the good list. I'm glad some people in Hollywood still believe in justice.

That petition is pretty much the definition of shit list. What kind of person calls rape 'a case of morals'? They are despicable.

I don't think he needs to be arrested!

I think he just needs to watch Dawson's Creek.

For all eternity.

Locked in a movie theater that smells like old cheese and locker room socks.

With lots of salty salted popcorn and no water.

Also the theme song will play every five minutes.

I REALLLLLLY agree with you. This is a dividing line that is most definitely NOT BLURRY. Would they defend anyone ELSE who did that no matter how long ago?

I know I'll be in the minority here, and if I'm reading the petition as it is presented correctly, I find I agree with it, or at least this portion:

"By their extraterritorial nature, film festivals the world over have always permitted works to be shown and for filmmakers to present them freely and safely, even when certain States opposed this.

The arrest of Roman Polanski in a neutral country, where he assumed he could travel without hindrance, undermines this tradition: it opens the way for actions of which no-one can know the effects."

I don't support Polanski's actions, but I do support the idea expressed above.

And in regards to Polanski's actions, I don't side with him. I side with the victim, Samantha Geimer, who has moved on, forgiven him, and even asked LA Prosecutors to drop the case, multiple times. Being a victim of child rape myself, I respect and understand why. It is unfair to her and her family to have the details brought up time and time again. It is also unfair for rape victims suffering now, this year, who can better use the resources being expended on this case.
