About those SPN season 3 spoilers
First, go read
dontyouwaitup's take on the spoilers, because she says exactly what I think, only far more eloquently. *g*
My own thoughts behind the cut.
I don't think adding two female regulars is necessarily a bad thing. As
dontyouwaitup points out, most or nearly all of the female characters the writers have given us in the past two seasons have been strong and pretty damned awesome. In that group I'd include Ellen, Carmen, Ava and yeah, Jo (who didn't work out the way she was intended, but I think has evolved into a character that I'm going to like.) The show's writers know what they're doing, and they're not stupid -- they're not going to screw with the show's main dynamic, the brothers' relationship. As
dontyouwaitup says, they've reinforced that that's the show's core, over and over again.
For myself, I think it's more realistic for these two abnormally attractive young males to be interested in and interesting to attractive young women. And you know what? I love these characters, and I want good things for them, and there's no denying that a good relationship can be a good thing. This doesn't necessarily mean Barbie and Skipper are joining the cast. Think of a younger Ellen, or a less-ditsyand crazeh Ava. Think about a Buffy-type character. Think about someone who'll get Dean a freakin' cheeseburger when he's being forced to eat stuff he hates. Think of someone who'll make emo!Sam laugh despite himself.
For the love of pete, people, think of the opportunity to see Sam or Dean gettin' some hot monkey lovin' on a more regular basis. WORK WITH ME ON THIS IMAGE, PEOPLE.
And from a practical standpoint, Jared and Jensen have said time and time again that their working schedule is murder. How much longer are they going to be willing to sign on for another season of 15-hour days, no days off and no life to speak of? Adding a couple of new characters will ease the burden for them, keep them happy and hopefully as gung-ho about the show as they have been.
Also? The show needs new viewers, and it needs them now, if we hope for it to survive. Adding a couple of hot badass chicks will bring in new viewers and broaden the show's appeal.
Like
dontyouwaitup, I trust the writers and I trust Kripke. They'll do right by us. And if it doesn't work out, we know from the way they handled Jo that they'll scrap things and move on. We're in capable hands.
Also, Ha!:
Ausiello: You can be such a bitch sometimes, Krissy. Seriously. Speaking of the poll, stop cheating, Bones fans. The Supernatural fans are onto you.
I hate to say 'I told you so', SPN fandom...wait, no I don't. I TOLD YOU SO! :D
So glad Ausiello's not like Kristen on E!
