(no subject)

I've now seen the Battlestar Galactica miniseries and omg I LOVE IT. And amazingly, there seem to be no skeevy race and gender issues so far. There's an awesomely diverse cast and the women, though they are beautiful, are not just there for the t&a factor. They have purposes! And not just the purpose of window dressing! And the president of the colonies is an over-40 woman with OMG A BRAIN. Anyway, I'm starting in on season 1, but I doubt I have time to make it through all three (?) seasons before the new season starts next month. THANK YOU to those who pimped it to me. :D

I'm watching SGA, too -- hooray for Sci-Fi airing season one during the week! I considered buying season one today -- even had it in my hand -- but talked myself out of it for the time being. I'm really liking this show, too! Also thank you to the people who pimped it to me!

Still working on Torchwood and a couple of the other shows, too. :)

EEE YAY! The S1 SGA DVDs are chock full of awesome extras, FYI. I am SOOO glad you're liking it so much. :D

Ooooh, extras! *drools*

I'm definitely going to get them at some point. :)

If nothing else, you can listen to Joe Flanigan be an ABSOLUTE dork on the commentaries. :D

[identity profile] fangirlsays.livejournal.com 2008-03-14 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Eee, that'd be worth the price all by itself! :D

[identity profile] brianrubin.livejournal.com 2008-03-14 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm waiting until the release the entire series - including razor - into one giant pretty box. THEN I'll buy it. ;) I think currently the DVD sets are a bit overpriced.

[identity profile] fangirlsays.livejournal.com 2008-03-14 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Erk, yeah. Maybe I'll stick with DLing for the time being.

[identity profile] brianrubin.livejournal.com 2008-03-14 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Smart move, IMO. :) Strangely enough, I don't have many BSG icons...mostly SPN, Firefly and Dexter. Go figure...;)

[identity profile] fangirlsays.livejournal.com 2008-03-14 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Dexter is another one I have plans to catch up on! :D

[identity profile] brianrubin.livejournal.com 2008-03-14 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG dude, it's my OTHER favorite show on TV besides Supernatural. SO FREAKING GOOD! That one you have PLENTY of time to catch up on since new eps start probably in September or October.

[identity profile] fangirlsays.livejournal.com 2008-03-14 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Excellent! Do you watch the CBS-sanitized version, or should I avoid that one like the plague?

[identity profile] brianrubin.livejournal.com 2008-03-14 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, I've seen it unsencored on showtime and downloads, why watch the castrated version? ;)

[identity profile] fangirlsays.livejournal.com 2008-03-14 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's pretty much what I was thinking. If I watched them on CBS first, I'd spend the whole time wondering what had been cut out. *g*

[identity profile] brianrubin.livejournal.com 2008-03-14 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly, just download the series and check it out that way. I have a feeling you'll like it. ;)

[identity profile] brianrubin.livejournal.com 2008-03-14 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
About TIME you jumped on the BSG bandwagon. Only one of THE GREATEST shows of our generation, if not period. ;)

[identity profile] fangirlsays.livejournal.com 2008-03-14 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I know; I can't believe I'm just now getting around to checking it out. It's so totally my kind of show. Why do I always wait so long before getting into the awesome shows? *thwaps self*

[identity profile] brianrubin.livejournal.com 2008-03-14 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
When did you get into SPN? I got in a little after season 2 started.

[identity profile] fangirlsays.livejournal.com 2008-03-14 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Not long after that, actually. I started watching probably in October/November of the second season, then got the first season DVDs for that Christmas and got caught up.

[identity profile] brianrubin.livejournal.com 2008-03-14 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it was a little after that for me, like december. My ex was into it and we started watching it during the christmas break...I gorged myself on all of it in about a week or two. ;)

[identity profile] pawmerry.livejournal.com 2008-03-14 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Welcome to Battlestar Galactica!!!! I got into it through Tivo and promptly addicted another friend to it. It is amazing to say the least!

[identity profile] fangirlsays.livejournal.com 2008-03-14 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I'm really loving it so far. :)

[identity profile] nyoka.livejournal.com 2008-03-14 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
YAY!!! BSG is the Best Damn Show on TV, hands down. I adore it so much. I look forward to chatting with you about it as you catch up. It's just...so good. Even when it's in a slump, it's still good. It has great gender dynamics in my opinion, and it's diverse and those diverse characters have actual roles! So yeah, plus the writing is just so frakking AMAZING. And the social commentary is done so well...it's just such a smart, thought-provoking, action-packed, well-written show. GAH. I love it so.

Ok, I'm such a fangirl for it :D

And yay, for Tochwoord. It's cracktastically fun. Did you watch Doctor Who first?

[identity profile] fangirlsays.livejournal.com 2008-03-14 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I could really smite myself for not checking this out sooner. If the quality of the series matches the quality of the miniseries, I may have a new favorite show. I think part of the reason I avoided it this long is I have a lot of nostalgia for the cheesy 70s BSG; it was actually one of my first fandoms. I guess I was convinced it could never be as good as the original, cheese and all.

It's amazing to me to see a series do such a seamless job on the race and gender issues. They make it look effortless, which is the way it should be. I'm kinda mentally glaring at TPTB at SPN right now; they're looking pretty rough by comparison.

I've seen Doctor Who really sporadically -- sporadically enough to be really confused by it. *g* I've gotta just break down and DL all of it and start over from the start; hopefully then I won't be spending so much time going O_o.

I sincerely recommend Torchwood, even though it boggles me occasionally how a series can sometimes be so interesting and pulled off so well and simultaneously be full of shoddy writing and plot holes.

[identity profile] fangirlsays.livejournal.com 2008-03-14 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm definitely going to be catching up on Torchwood. I've watched a few eps of that and a few of Doctor Who, but only managed to confuse myself. *g* It does look promising, though, so hopefully watching from the beginning will help with the confusing factor.

I like Battlestar Galactica but I have a lot of problems with it ( it's a love hate relationship). I'm totally addicted to Stargate Atlantis. It's practically crack to me. I started watching last year over the summer. I've only just started watching Torchwood this year and I'm enjoying it to pieces.

Relevant female characters FTW!

Best show on TV. That is all.
