So, the show just basically told us that this guy was perfect for Dean, and showed Sam and Dean both in love with the siren and fighting over him. And the siren guy GAVE DEAN WHAT HE NEEDED. AND IT WAS SAM. CANON, baybehs.

Well, for one thing, it strongly implies that despite all the brothers have been through for each other - the little brother that Dean really wants is one who is to him what, in "Dream A Little Dream", his doppleganger accused him of being to John. Music - Dean's, whiskey - Dean's, opinions - Dean's. He is angry and suspicious of Sam having his own likes, dislikes and opinions.

"Dream A Little Dream" has been accused (and with good arguements)of John bashing - "Sex and Violence" then bashes Dean and John.

Although it does make Bobby even more awesome than ever. "Growing old gracefully?" HA! Try "Growing old kicking ass!"

Sorry, that's not right! When the Siren gave Dean what he wants, it was someone who loves and knows cars and music, and that's HIMSELF. The siren offered to be his brother, but by then Dean was poisoned, not being seduced, so it doesn't work.

Not that that should stop anyone from writing the fic. :)

I can see what you mean, but every other instance with the siren involved a less-than-platonic situation. And I've only watched once, but didn't the siren guy say something like he gave Dean what he needed "and it was you, Sam." Not 'a little brother' but 'you, Sam.' I think it's absolutely open to interpretation there.

I agree it's absolutely open to intepretation, but in the context of the show, not in a sexual way.

The siren reads minds, so it knew Sam and Dean were hunters. Which immediately makes the situation NOT comparable to every other "kill-for-me" scenario it had created. Remember, it said it was bored, which explains why it escalated from wives to mother, a tighter bond that would be more challenging to break. Dean and Sam have a very uncommon connection, so it was an even bigger challenge for the siren.

Each kill had two steps. First the seduction, presenting as the ideal, in order to get the victim close enough to be poisoned by the spit. Once they are poisoned, it seemed it didn't matter what the siren offered, they'd were completely under the influence and therefore would do whatever was asked of them.

So, yes, Dean desperately wants his brother back, and that was what the siren used to influence him post poisoning, but before that, he was nothing like Sam, so that wasn't how he hooked Dean in the first place, not really.

lol about the only place the show *didn't* go was to have the siren kiss both Dean and Sam to transfer the venom.

I laughed. Hard. And my daughter asked me why, and I just had to tell her that I thought it funny that for every other man this siren was a beautiful woman but for Dean he was a man? CLASSIC.

And I'm sorry, but I just don't buy the whole brother thing in this instance. Siren = sex.
