Supernatural: First A+ episode of the season. :D

Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] plutogirl10 and [livejournal.com profile] franzi1981! Hope it's a great one, ladies. :)

This week's ep is going into my list of top 5 episodes. Maybe top three, after I've rewatched it. SO MUCH LOVE.

First of all, this is the first episode of the season that /everyone/ I've seen mention it loved. Not just liked -- it's been a universal lovefest all up in herrr. :D If what's-his-face from TWoP rips it apart, I will not be held responsible for my actions.

[edit: Dude: This is, like, the best episode of any television show, ever!. And By far the best episode they've produced in months. Do you think Sera Gamble would say yes if I asked her to marry me? (I think maybe he/she liked it? Not sure. *g*]

I want icons from this, stat. All of you who are good at that sort of thing, chop chop!

You know, it occurrs to me that it takes a helluva lot of strength to rip someone's head off with your bare hands, which is pretty much what Sam did. I mean, the fact that Gordon ripped off the blondies' heads was what clued them into the fact that not all was well with Gordon. And yes, Sam had the steel cable or whatever, but seriously, ripping off the entire head with just the strength of his arms? And basically overpowered someone with vampire strength? I fear there's something supernatural going on there.

I came away from this episode a bit more fond of Bela. After Sam and Dean having to save her last week, and then Gordon showing up this week, I feared we were setting up a pattern of the boys having to rescue the damsel in distress. I much better like Bela as able to take care of herself, and willing to screw over anyone to do so. It also cements the adversarial nature of her relationship with the boys, whereas last week left them with the potential of trusting each other a little.

I loved seeing Mercedes/Harmony again, but they killed her off too soon. Seemed like a waste. Then again, that's a very Joss thing to do. One question, though -- why couldn't they have tried to rehabilitate her like Lenore and her nest? I mean, it would've taken crazy time, and maybe wouldn't have worked, but it seemed like a possibility they didn't address at all.

I loved that when Dean killed Harmony, we saw the reaction on Sam's face. It was such an awesome contrast to the end scene in "Heart", minus the tears (and I think that's part of the point, to illustrate Sam's different way of reacting to having to kill an innocent).

Gordon's little nuzzle of Kubrick after he kills him was both touching and disturbing. Nice. :)

Vampire dude in the end was a sympathetic character. I kind of even ached for him a little, still holding the century-old picture of his daughter and talking about how hunters have killed everyone he loved (which was what Sam said to YED, and THAT STILL IRKS ME BECAUSE, HELLO, DEAN?!) The concept of family is such a touchstone in Supernatural, and I really like extending that concept to the baddies. Also, Dean, please realize that you are leaving Sam with /no one/ in the world, and understand the magnitude of that fact.

Which leads me to The Conversation in the Abandoned House, and it seriously does need to be capitalized, because here is the payoff we've been waiting for all season. Sam has followed Dean around his whole life, has looked up at him and wanted to be like him since he was four (was there significance to that age? Maybe that's when John started leaving Dean to take care of Sam?), and OH MY HEART. Thank you for finally saying that, Sam, and thank you for finally calling Dean on his 'I-don't-care-and-I'm-not-scared' crap. And THANK YOU for not letting Dean deflect the conversation with a joke. I loved Jared's delivery of "NO. It's NOT" when Dean says it's a little bit funny.

Also, allow me a moment of "neener-neener", because I was right earlier in the season when I said that Dean's closed-off (even for him) attitude was setting up for a big payoff. Ha! I don't think we're done here, either. There's a world of hurt waiting for our boys before next May.

Gordon literally seeing red was awesome.

The Conversation with the Impala...oh. It rang so true to /everything/ -- Dean's realization that he's leaving Sam (and leaving his baby, too!) so he needs to teach him to take care of the Impala. He was gentle about it without it becoming too emotional. And Sam /letting/ Dean basically pass the Impala onto him was so hurty. He knew Dean needed to do that, and he let him, and they both acknowledged that they might not be able to save Dean in the end. So much love, and so much hurt.

So, who was the spirit that told Bela that the boys should 'run like hell and don't even think about going after Gordon'? Obviously it's someone who knows them. HMMM.
