I see her points, but I am not so sure that I agree with some of them. And to me the major difference between fanfiction and profiction is that fanfiction has an established audience, and pre-existing characters (the exception being any original characters you may introduce). In profic you not only have to build an audience out of the pure potential of their being one, but you also have to win them over and get them to be invested in characters that they no prior knowledge of. I don't think that one is inherently better than the other, just that one requires more world building and exposition than the other.
I could say that it is original verses transformative art, but at the same time, since all writers are influenced by what they have previous read, an argument can be made for it all being transformative art.

The difference is that profiction is totally the author's work. Fanfiction, while some of the stories may be great and the writing excellent, is not completely the work of the author. The characters were developed (& are copyrighted) by someone else.
Of course, that doesn't explain which is "better." You can't generically say one is better than the other; 1) because each work is individual and 2) each reader has her own idea of what is good and what isn't.
