Home again home again, jiggity jog.
Aug. 23rd, 2008 11:25 amI'm home, whoot! Had a great time, but oh my GOD, I'm glad to be back. More about the work conference/vacation later. I missed you guys! I'm still pissed at the hotel for charging $10 a DAY for internet access, which basically meant no net for me for the past six days. I did sneak onto the guest computer in the lobby a couple of times to see if anything drastic showed up in email (and to sign into the internet class), but I have NO clue what's going on in the world beyond that.
Please, please, PLEASE, someone summarize anything important that happened while I was gone. LJ, news, fandom, entertainment, ANYTHING. I feel so out of the loop. *puppydog eyes*
I did hear this morning that Obama picked Joe Biden as his running mate. Obviously, I'm disappointed it's not Clinton, but to be honest, it's not surprising. There's some apalling (and undeserved) hatred for Hillary in this country, and from a strictly political point of view, she could've been a detriment to the Democratic ticket. Plus, Biden has the experience to balance out Obama's relative inexperience. On a purely personal note, Joe Biden lectured during a government class of mine back at USC about 20 years ago, and he impressed me a lot. So, I'm trying to move on from the disappointments of the Democratic race (Edwards dropping out, Hillary conceding defeat, Edwards' indescretions and the infuriating media frenzy over what should've been between Edwards and Elizabeth) and get excited about the Obama/Biden ticket.
Speaking of being excited, I can't even explain how happy I am to be taking classes again and working towards teacher licensure. That may change as the semester goes on, but for now, WHEEE, I'm a student again. :D Taking classes online is a whole new world, y'all; it's gonna take some getting used to. I've also gotta get my hands on a copy of Word, because assignments have to be Word docs. The copy on my laptop is the trial version, plus it's the 2007 version, which seems unnecessarily complicated. Anyone know where I can get a *cough*free*cough* copy of Word 2003?
I dunno what's going on with me; all of a sudden I'm wanting to spruce things up -- the house, my blogs, myself. I swear, it's like I'm nesting (first person who asks if I'm pregnant gets whacked over the head with a dead fish).
Anyway, I'm gonna dive into the flist and see how far back I can get. Later, classwork! Bwee!
Edit: Has anyone procured the SPN season 3 DVDs yet?
Edit II: What's this I hear about SGA getting cancelled?!
Edit III: Did I mention how grateful I am to my job for the mostly-free beach vacation? No? OMG SO GRATEFUL. What job pays for you and your family to go to the beach, and then only expects you to go to interesting workshops in return? THIS IS SUCH AN AWESOME JOB.

Updateage, and Comic Con
Jul. 15th, 2008 10:13 amMy tooth doesn't hurt this morning so far! I took Advil this morning, just in case, but so far I've had not even a twinge. *knockwood* Pleaseohpleaseohplease let this continue.
I'm so confused omg, because I checked my blogspot again last night, and on my laptop, running Firefox, the header looks fine! I don't understand how that's possible, when so many of you checked it and saw the same too-long header that I'm seeing here at work. How do I fix something that looks fine on my laptop? Halp!
I'm very amused at that interview that's making the rounds -- the one that says Sera Gamble heard that Kripke wanted to show the first ten minutes of the season 4 premiere at Comic Con (and, btw, I officially HATE all of you who are getting to go to this), but Bob Singer said OH NOES it'd be all over the internet in ten minutes. Thank you, Captain Obvious; we never would've guessed that without your astute observation. ;) And seriously, isn't that the whole point of showing something -- to create online buzz? What's the difference in a few thousand people seeing it at Comic Con and several thousand more seeing it online? WHY YES I'M GRUMPY BECAUSE I WON'T BE THERE WHY DO YOU ASK?
Hey, can someone who's going to CC please find out for sure when the premiere is happening?

Jul. 13th, 2008 12:12 pmWhoops! Behind a cut 'cause it's hyooge.
Found it! :D

Hey, does anyone here use Blogspot extensively? I have one here, though obviously I haven't used it much so far. I'm toying with the idea of using it as a public, fandom-only blog, but I'm not familiar enough with it to have any clue how to best use it. I mean, without flists, how do people know you have posted? How do they read you? It annoys me when I'm completely clueless. *grumps* I did just realize that Semagic would allow me to cross-post to Blogspot, which would simplify the posting part.
Anyway, I'm not planning to stop posting here (or IJ or JF or...you get the picture) or anything; I'll continue posting most fandom stuff publically and most personal stuff flocked (except when I'm an idiot who FORGETS TO LOCK THE PERSONAL STUFF ARGH.)

Free online classes?
May. 22nd, 2008 10:49 amI was just sitting here, regretting that I'm so bad in math and science. Seriously, I've seen school systems in our area offering signing bonuses to math teachers, but elementary teachers are pretty much considered a dime a dozen. But more than that, I'm sick of not being able to help my 7th-grader with her math homework. I feel like I fail at math, and I DON'T WANT TO.
*ahem*
Anyway, if anyone can point me in that direction, I'd appreciate it. :)
PSP is not my friend
Mar. 17th, 2008 05:43 pmHey, all you graphics-talented people out there! I have tried and failed to do this myself, so now I'm begging for someone to do it for me -- I'm wanting to design some new t-shirts for the OpWin Cafepress site. I've got the front pocket graphic covered, but what I'd like to do is have some of the more fun quotes from the show on the back. Just a simple, clean design that's the right size for the back of a t-shirt, and possibly the same thing in a color that'll work on black t-shirts.
So, would anyone be able to hook me up? I'd be glad to give you a free t-shirt as a thank you once they're all finished. :D
Quotes I'm thinking of offhand (though I'd also appreciate suggestions for more):
"I hope your apple pie was freakin' worth it!"
"Driver picks the music; shotgun shuts his cakehole."
"Saving people, hunting things -- the family business."
"I lost my shoe." :(
"Hell is like...well, it's like Hell."
"I'm shocked at this unforseen turn of events."
"I have...an evil twin."
"I...shot the sheriff." "But you didn't shoot the deputy!"
"Demons I get; people are just crazy."
"He full-on ObiWan'd me."
