I really loved HMT when I first read it too over 25 years ago. I remember not being able to put it down and finishing it on my lunch break at Burger King of all places.
That being said (I'm also an old LotR fandom person), I haven't read many male pregnancies stories that aren't omega verse, but they are out there. Why not go for it? I love thinking about it too, but love writing it just as much.
I have a couple of sadly abandoned WIPs that really need endings. I keep saying I'll do it (and people occasionally ask me to finish them). I feel awful about one in particular, but sometimes you just can't get that lovin' feeling back.
So do it. I'd read it. I love dystopian au fiction.
