I fear I have a cold or something coming on. (*cue Anakin bellow: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!eleven!!*)

DO NOT WANT. I'm taking Emergen-C for the mega doses of vitamin C, and making a big pot of chicken soup tonight, but GIVE ME IDEAS OMG. What else can I do? What foods are super-packed with vitamins? What's great for energy?

DUN WANNA BE SICK.

I've always had luck with Zycam, but I can't say if that's psychomatic or if it actually works. It's supposed to kill the germs inside the nose where they multiply fastest. I've never noticed any effect from echinacea, but other people swear by it. B vitamins for energy!

Weirdly enough, my nose isn't all that stuffy -- the congestion's setting in in my chest. D:

Will definitely look for some B vitamins!

Thanks, hon. :D

Zicam also comes in a handy Hot Drink formula, which I find works WONDERS for chest colds. Hot tea in general is great for chest congestion-- fluids keep everything moving around, and the heat/steam is helpful.

Ooh, a hot tea sounds awesome. I'll look for the Zicam one. Thanks, hon! :D

Orange Juice! Shredded wheat cereal or oatmeal.

Bananas (good with brown sugar on oatmeal - yum!)

Garlic bread.

Garlic bread and tomato soup was one of Mom's home remindies for a cold - minced garlic lightly sauteed with butter and spread over a split hoagie(grinder, blimpy, sub)roll with a sprinkle of parmesian cheese and run under the broiler just enough to put a bit of a crust on the cheese.

Comfort food :)

This is the stuff I take to pound the fuck out of colds:

1. Airborne
2. Zinc lozenges like Cold-Eze
3. Pomegranate Juice
4. Oscillococcinum - It's odd shit, but it works WONDERS.

Good luck!

I've got Airborne at home; I'll definitely start that tonight. And pomegranate juice? Coolness -- I actually got a pomegranate the other day but haven't been sure what to do with it!

Never heard of oscillococcinum (Dean: Is that made up? It sounds made up.) What in the world is that?

Thanks for the suggestions!

Opening the fruit in a bowl of water has worked very well for me.

That's crazy enough to work! I will do that the next time I buy one! Thanks :)

I drank some stuff called Kombucha once when I had a horrible chest cold and I felt amazing the next day.

There was maybe an eighth of the bottle left when I read that the stuff I saw floating in the bottle were live bacteria cultures and not fruit puree. I guess if you eat yogurt, you shouldn't have a problem with drinking this stuff.

Here's a link to the mayo clinic on the stuff: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/kombucha-tea/AN01658

Ditto on the oscillococcinum - it's an immune-system jumpstarter. Umcka makes a syrup called ColdKalm that knocks congestion and such out pretty quickly; the best place to find it is a health-food store. Vitamin A kills infection, as does garlic (Kyolic deodorized garlic is the easiest to tolerate); zinc helps your body heal faster.

Lots of clear fluids help flush all the gunk out of your system faster as well as making sure you stay hydrated.

Feel better soon, honey. *hug*

I swear by ColdFX. It used to only be available in Canada, but according to their website, you can get it here now. It's basically a ginseng bomb. http://www.cold-fxusa.com/

I make a little fruit salad of strawberries, mandarin oranges (from a can) and kiwi. Loads of vitamins in there for ya. I also put a couple of slices of raw ginger in a cup and steep some tea in it.

I second the Airborne, I've never gotten the full-blown cold when I've taken it properly. And I always take it when I travel, and NEVER get sick, even though everyone around me does. Which is irrelevant in this case. Sorry.

A friend also swears by the Umcka, so definitely check that out. I haven't gotten my hands on any yet so I'm not personally able to endorse it.

And definitely, sleep. :)

I've been drinking green tea with echinaecia (spelling?) any time I felt the cold coming on for the past 2 months, and so far nothing worse than a stuffed nose.
