In what could be the final nail in the Dollhouse coffin, the show's season finale last night received its lowest ratings of the year. Only 2.8 million people tuned in, which is roughly the same number of viewers that Supernatural got this week (its second-lowest ratings of the year, I might add).

The difference being, of course, that Supernatural is on The CW, where 2.8 million viewers is nothing to sneeze at, and Dollhouse is on Fox, where execs are no doubt sneezing their heads off at this very moment.

Honestly, Dollhouse deserves to be cancelled. Even coming from a background of loving a lot of Joss's previous work, I really didn't like this show. My only regret at this point is that cut in case someone hasn't seem the last two episodes ) But as someone on Twitter said, Dollhouse may be Joss's Ishtar. It had promise, it had buzz. It even had the automatic adoration of the Joss faithful, and it still...well, sucked.

25 minutes till we see Dollhouse.

Gah, I'm stressed. I want this to be good -- not just!good, but joss!good. I want to fall in love with characters and recognize the Whedon cadences in the dialog and I want good ratings and and and.

I'm fairly certain it's not normal for the /fans/ to be nervous for a new show. *bites nails*

This just keeps getting better -- Tahmoh Penikett (Helo on Battlestar Galactica) has been cast as an FBI agent trying to disprove the urban legend of the Dollhouse, and a romantic foil for Eliza Dushku's character. *rubs hands gleefully*

Also, this is a spoiler, but one that I don't think anyone's going to be able to avoid hearing about it: SPOILER for Prison Break season 4 )

In conclusion, Thursdays without Supernatural should not be allowed. :(

Best News Ever! Joss Whedon Spills Exclusive Deets on His New Series (link to the always-inane Kristin on e!online, unfortunately.)

The great news: Joss Whedon has a new series in the works -- which has already been given the green light for seven episodes!

More great news: The series stars Eliza Dushku! And Tim Minear is attached!

The horrifyingly bad news: the series will be on Fox. In other words, don't get too attached to it.

More bad news: Like everything else in Hollywood, a possible writer's strike would throw a wrench into things in a big way.

edit: [livejournal.com profile] save_dollhouse. 'Cause there's no sense fighting the inevitable. *g*
