A plea to all the "Lost" fans out there:
Jan. 31st, 2008 02:20 pmI know a lot of you are Lost fans -- I counted myself as one for a long while, too -- and I know tonight is the long-awaited season 4 premiere. I know you all want to watch that. But would you please consider taping it and watching Supernatural live instead?
Supernatural has always been a bubble show. It survives (and holds its ratings) week to week despite airing opposite Grey's Anatomy, CSI and The Office, in what is the toughest night on network television. The CW, for whatever reason, rarely promotes Supernatural at all (Dawn Ostroff, head of the CW, has even said that she "doesn't get" Supernatural).
It's a quality show, though, and it deserves better. It's so much more than a show about beautiful boys driving around in a beautiful classic car (which I realize might be the way it appears to those who haven't watched it). At its heart, Supernatural is about family, about two guys who have no one else in the world but each other; who exist in a blue-collar, underground sort of world in order to fight the good fight every day of their lives -- doing what's right without ever being recognized or thanked. They live in one cheap hotel after another and survive off of credit card fraud and hustling pool. Dean traded his soul to a demon in order to save Sam's life; now Sam's desparate to save his brother before Dean's last year runs out.
I wish I had the eloquence to do the show justice.
Please consider watching Supernatural tonight. Lost doesn't need the ratings -- obviously, they'll make a killing tonight. Supernatural needs every single viewer it can get. So Tivo or tape Lost, but please, please watch Supernatural live.
