I felt like I shouldn't join in this particular discussion since I'm not going to be able to go to Eyecon this time, but oh my freaking GOD, I'm glad someone finally said something publicly about the skeeviness of having someone host fanfic panels who has made it clear that she thinks anyone who reads or writes Wincest is "the dark side of fandom", and who says slash itself should have stayed underground but she's not a homophobe, oh NO.

I'm a little confused about how someone who admits she's new to online fandom in the first place ended up appointing herself liaison between LJ fandom and Eyecon. And while I have nothing but respect for Kenny and Voni and the others who make Eyecon happen, I think it's really a really bad idea to let someone who disdains a large part of fandom represent the con.

I read all of that and it seems like she's either not understanding how her being a part of a slash panel might not be kosher and is turning it into 'woe is me, peoples thinks I'm important'. *laughs* She might not be a part of the show but she is a coordinator for a convention. Of course, she's the one who deemed her personal LJ as a "little community" and said she was providing a "safe space" for non-slashers where only "gen-friendly" icons and comments were allowed. Because, clearly, one cannot be okay with slash and gen at the same time!

ITA! I was so offended before the last EyeCon when she said that if slash was discussed at the fanfic panels that it needed to be in a subdued, restrained and respectful way. I was like, Dude, wtf does that mean? Do we need to come up with colorful euphemisms like we're 14 and can't call things by their right names without laughing? I can't remember exactly how she phrased it, but she said it in such a way that I thought it was the people running the con who had a problem with slash, but apparently that's not really the case... So glad there are people who will try to take that out of her hands this time...
