Variety is reporting that The CW has picked up a pilot based on the Vampire Diaries, a series of young-adult novels about a young woman torn between vampire brothers.

The pilot will be produced by Warner Bros., as well as Alloy Entertainment, which previously produced Gossip Girl and Priviledged from their respective book series. Kevin Williamson, writer for "Scream", "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and "Dawson's Creek," will executive produce and write. Julie Plec, who has written for Kyle XY, will also write and executive produce.

The Vampire Diaries began in 1993, which was apparently before the Twilight series began.

So, what say you? Will this series be more than a blood-sucking Gossip Girl? More to the point, will you watch?

Even more to the point, are they looking at this as a replacement for Supernatural? Because if so, HELL NO!

I'm kinda stalking your lj, *blushes*

*blinkblink* I read those books when I was a kid! The original four, anyway.

linky (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Vampire_Diaries)

I remember them not being that bad, but I was also a kid when I read them, so my judgement may have been skewed (however, I was also reading Stephen King and Shakespeare at the same time).

I will watch only if the vampire brothers are gloriously gay like every single guy on Gossip Girl. Which I love.

If it's better than Twilight, I may give it at least the first couple eps. If it involves vampires, I'm usually open to try it.

SPN is the last show that I'm watching "in process", if that makes any sense. No more genre shows until they're off the air and I can rent the DVDs.

And I've no intention of touching ANYTHING else on the CW; I'm sure it will be full of sex and stupidity like GG and 90210 and all thier other shows.

I think that the vampire genre has worn out its welcome with me until someone actually tries something NEW! I gave Moonlight a chance and that was BAD, and then I gave True Blood a chance and that was OMG SO BAD, and let's not even talk about Twilight because I will not touch it with a ten foot pole!

So, no crappy CW series for me. The only thing I watch ont he CW is Supernatural and the moment that is finished I am walking away for good.... or until they fire Dawn Ostroff and replace her with someone with some taste.

I'll watch anything vampire.

Here's hoping they get some good people in it, though. Some good directing would also be nice.

OMG those books...*shudders* I read them when I was a teenager and then just recently re-read them. I may have to watch this show just to see how horrible it is...

Seeing as Williamson is exec prod, I'll definitely give it a try. I like to support the CW, even though I shake my head in disbelief in a lot of their show choices. I like vampires, and it might be a good fit on CW, given their favor of genre shows, and are not scared of horror. I have not read the books.

One girl between two brothers (vampire or otherwise) - hello "Sabrina" - and since it's a safe bet they aren't going to be filming with Audrey Hepburne,Humphrey Bogart, William Holden, Harrison Ford or Greg Kinnear nor will it be directed by Billy Wilder or Sidney Pollock - I don't think so.

I am willing to give the first couple of episodes a try. I'll take a fantasy show that tries to have a cohesive plot over a reality show any day of the week.

I'll probably give it a shot but that's mostly because I'm a sucker for Vampires. *Snicker*
