Or how about fan_girl_sez. Or fan_girlsez. Or fan_girl_says, etc.
Idk. Which ever one you want to keep typing in in order to log in.
FYI I look at the whole word/name. Sometimes I personally see words others don't when they create their names & have to take a minute to figure out what it's supposed to be. fangirl could look like fang irl or something. IDK, pay no attention to me, I'm just weird that way. fangirlsays is the quickest as is fangirlsez if it isn't taken. Again, it's up to you as to how much typing you want to do when you log in.
*snarf* I've clearly been in fandom too long, 'cause now every time I see 'fangirl_sez' I read it 'fangirl_sex'. Which...would probably be a different sort of blog entirely. :D
I don't see the problem with using the name you want without the _. The only other interpretation of that I can think of is "fangirls ays," and that kinda works, too, in a Celtic-esque way.
Now beat me soundly for missing your birthday. Even though the idiots now send me TWO reminders for each of your names, they send them too damn early, and with this being the only working computer in the house ATM (not to mention the fairly perpetual projector for Who episodes), I plead stupidity.
Aww, it's okay, hon. :D *squishes you in lieu of beating* Also, wow, two reminders for each name? Sheesh, overkill much, LJ?
Huh, I see what you mean about the "fangirls ays" interpretation, and that's actually not bad. I think I'm definitely leaning towards "fangirlsays". Still sorta bummed my first choice isn't available. Who knew that LJ feed names were counted as usernames? Certainly not me.
I was sorely tempted to vote for "jared hawt, jensen pretty" simply because of the inherent truth of those four words. The Gospel of Supernatural cannot be denied. *nods*
