I really hate the name "Cass." It sounds stupid, y'all. It sounds like an 8-year-old's nickname for his sister, and it drags me out of the story every single time. So, hey, let's call Alastair Allie, why don't we? (Even more randomly, I really dislike the way Jensen pronounces that -- Al-uh-STAIR. It's AL-uh-ster. *grumps*) And we could call Uriel Uri, right? And Anna could be Annie!

I find the whole Castiel thing more fun when I start thinking of it in terms of some big Wnicest conspiracy. Doesn't make me sane but... definitely more fun.

Comment guard. Um. The thing that's before your submit post where you have to type in words to make sure it's really a person and not a bot speaking? (I hardly ever log in to my LJ) Some LJs have them some don't.

Actually, depending on the true spelling, it is pronounced:

Alistair - Al-eh-stair
Alastair - Al-uh-stair

If it was pronounced Al-eh-ster or Al-uh-ster it would be spelled like Alester, Alister or Alaster.

EXACTLY!! It's been pissing me off that the fans spell it wrong every time -- I'm thinking they know how it's spelt and supposed to be pronounced on the show!

And I really like "Cas" -- mainly because I like that Dean gave him a nickname --- probably to take the edge off of being intimidated by an angel.... so Dean!

FWIW I used to watch a soap years ago (Another World) in which there was a male character named Cass but with a softer S. I see the guy who played him on random other things but mostly a commercial for something or other. For some reason everytime SamnDean call Castiel that I'm reminded of the other dude. Maybe because he's about the only other Cass I've ever seen.

Man, I am so glad I'm not the only one. I've always hated the use of Cas. At first, I've gotta admit it was sort of a Dean thing to do, to shorten the name. Dean usually takes the shortest, most efficient route to everything. But, then it became an all the time thing and started to wear on me. And, when Sam started using, it, I *really* didn't like it. It just doesn't sound like Sam to do that, for some reason. Even if Castiel was just some dude from down the street, I wouldn't like it. But, an angel? Yeah, it just sounds strange to shorten it. I'm with you, it would be the same thing with the demons. Allie? LOL

This! I find it annoying as well...but I've made it better by drinking everytime someone says "cass", so much more fun that way.
